In Memory of Bradley Burgum
January 3rd, 1952 – February 14th, 2010

The sudden passing of Bradley Burgum came on February 14th, 2010. Brad and his family have given generously to the U of MN Sail Race Team over the years and we take this opportunity to thank the Burgum Family and offer our deepest condolences. Brad and wife of 34 years, Julie, resided in Casselton, ND where he lived a life as a successful business man, a leader among his community, and a loving family man. Brad’s list of achievements and passions for public service were numerous and began when he created the Casselton Ambulance Service in 1978 and served as a volunteer EMT for over 30 years. He had a long successful career as the city attorney for Casselton and CPA. The enormous impact Brad had on the community and entire region was evident as respects and a celebration of Brad’s life were had at his funeral, Saturday, February 20, where the entire town of Casselton filled two local churches (with live broadcast). Brad taught his two sons, James and Ben, his love of sailing at their family cabin on Pelican Lake, ND, sailing C scows for many years. Ben was a member and captain of the U of MN Sail Race Team from Fall 2000 to Fall 2004, competing in seven national championships and was twice an all-district skipper. He continued his participation with the team as our Coach from Spring 2006 to Fall 2008 and is a current member of our Alumni Association. Just this past January, Ben and Katie graciously hosted our first gathering as a kickoff to our U of MN Sailing Team Alumni Association. Similar to our teammate Ben, his dad was a great supporter of our Gopher sailors and a true gentleman.
